Words of Comfort

    Psalm 23

David declares, The Lord is my shepherd.

A Psalm of David.

 1The Lord is my ashepherd; I shall not bwant.

 2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he aleadeth me beside the still waters.

 3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of arighteousness for his bname’s sake.

 4Yea, though I awalk through the bvalley of the cshadow of ddeath, I will fear no eevil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they fcomfort me.

 5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou aanointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

 6Surely agoodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

The Holy Bible: King James Version. 2000.

The First Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the
Corinthians
13

Love
1  Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, Mt. 17.20 ; 21.21 · Mk. 11.23 and have not charity, I am nothing.

3  And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

4  ¶ Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5  doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6  rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7  beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8  ¶ Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11  When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12  For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13  And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

In Memory of my Mother

20th January 1924 – 25th May 2006

Kneeling, I hold her as stillness steals
Her last breath, sighing, gently gone,
As deep in my arms her softness feels
That same warm tenderness that seals
A voice that says to her,” Well done.”

Holiness comes and entering in
Floods my heart with compassion’s tear,
And within that same soft rendering,
No slight of death or hindering,
Whispers gently, “She is not here.”

What is there now, but an earthly shell,
Long spent and weary now asleep,
And in His presence there to dwell,
A legacy that Love made well,
Forever in my heart to keep.

How sweet her smile in Love’s repose,
In perfect peace that cannot die,
That brought us here and then arose
And crossed the river there that flows,
The fragrance of Jesus passing by.

This was one of mother's favorite Bible passages:

 3Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed:

 4But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,

 5In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;

 6By pureness, by knowledge, by long suffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,

 7By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

 8By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;

 9As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;

 10As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

What God Has Promised

God hath not promised
Skies always blue
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives through.

God hath not promised
Sun without rain
Joy without sorrow
Peace without pain.

But God hath promise
Strength for the day
Rest for the labor
Light for the way;

Grace for the trials
Help from above
Unfailing sympathy
Undying love.
